Robert Creeley / Old Illustrations

So, I was reading some Robert Creeley the other day - another favorite poet of mine. I was reminded of an exercise I had to do for school a couple of years ago using poetry or song lyrics (above). I used the poem (below).

'The Tunnel"

Tonight, nothing is long enough--
time isn't.
Were there a fire,
it would burn now.

Were there a heaven,
I would have gone long ago.
I think that light
is the final image.

But time reoccurs,
love--and an echo.
A time passes
love in the dark.

Ok, while the above images aren't exactly graphic design genius, they were fun to do and have got me thinking: Maybe I should try to do an illustration/type design for a poem or excerpt from a book every couple of weeks. It might be a good way to practice my design/illustration skills and intimately engage with some texts. But alas: who knows! I am full of ideas and not time.

Anyway, Robert Creeley is great. I always come back to this poem:

"Love Comes Quietly"

Love comes quietly,
finally, drops
about me, on me,
in the old ways.

What did I know
thinking myself
able to go
alone all the way.
